For his work in the film “In Camera,” British-Egyptian artist Amir El-Masry had been nominated for a British Independence Film Awards best supporting performance award.
He posted the news to his 782,000 fans on Instagram, saying, “Good news, but given what’s going on in the world at large right now, it’s hard to celebrate.” My heart feels heavy and full.
The movie, which debuted at the Karlovy Vary World Film Festival, follows the tale of Aden, a teenage actor trapped in a terrifying cycle of auditions, as portrayed by Nabhaan Rizwan. Aden decides to look for a new role after being turned down on several occasions.
El-Masry played a young Mohamed Al-Fayed, the Egyptian billionaire and father to the late Princess Diana’s partner Dodi, in the popular Netflix series “The Crown.”
He also starred in the science fiction drama “The One” on Netflix. It is a television series that premiered in March 2021 and is based on the same-titled novel by British novelist John Marrs.
He played a Syrian refugee seeker who ends himself residing on an isolated Scottish island in the 2020 film “Limbo,” which earned him the best performer in feature-length film award at the BAFTA Scottish awards in November 2021.
Also in 2020, the British Academies of Television and Film Arts presented El-Masry with a BAFTA Rising Brits award.
