A government body said that in September, the number of cargo-handling containers in Saudi Arabia’s ports increased by 11.6% annually to 732,293 containers.
In its most recent report, the Saudi Port Authority, which is better known as Mawani, noted that the total amount of containers transported last month jumped 18.2% year over year to 234,663.
According to the figures, the number of imported containers increased by 17.1% to 217,933 in September.
These numbers highlight the authority’s dedication to increasing port capabilities and services. They also emphasize how resilient the Saudi economy is, as well as how strong supply linkages and business activities are.
This growth in numbers also fits with the goals of the National Transportation & Logistics Strategy, which aims to strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a significant participant in the world of logistics.
Additionally, the overall amount of commodities handled throughout the ports climbed by 2.59 percent yearly to 26 million tons, and the number of transshipment. It containers rose by 3.09 percent annual to 279,697.
There were 676,017 tons of general cargo, 4.21 million tons of solid bulk cargo, and 13.1 million tones of liquid bulk cargo.
In addition, the ports reported that 533,948 head of livestock were unloaded, which is a 744.31 percent rise from the same time in 2022.
Additionally, the authority’s ports welcomed about 72,934 passengers, which represents an increase of 79.29% from the same month the year before.
The ports received about 83,049 autos, which is an increase of 19.77 percent as compared with September 2022.
A total of 1,040 ships were registered in September, representing an 11.83 percent increase in maritime traffic over the same month last year.
The goals of Mawani include raising the port’s capacity to over forty million container yearly and reaching a market share of 45 percent for the Kingdom in regional transshipment. In keeping with its continued goal to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s position on international indicators, these initiatives.
Mawani, which was founded in 1976, intends to increase the maritime navigation network’s connectivity with international shipping lines and boost the competitive edge of Saudi ports.
