The number of Omani students enrolling into higher education establishments in the Sultanate and abroad showed a 2.6 percent increase last year compared to the previous academic year.
According to the Statistics and Information Department of the Higher Education Admission Centre (HAEC), Ministry of Higher Education, from the 24,445 new students, 57.3 percent were females.
The number of admissions to government higher education establishments (15,151) represented 61.9 percent of total number of students, with 7,935 (32.4 percent) admitted to private higher education institutions.
Some 1,359 students (5.6 percent) opted to enrol in higher education institutions abroad.
The subjects that proved most popular with Omani students included business and administration (30 percent), engineering and technical specialisations (25.3 percent) and information technology (12.9 percent).
